I attended the Innovation Alley Block Party the other day.

The Mayor was there, the Premier of the Province was there, and the CEO’s of MTS and Bell were there.

It was quite an impressive block party I have to say… Frankly, I was expecting something a little lower-key, but it was quite over the top.

A thousand people or more I would guess, fancy stage, lots of neat demo’s by our local I.T./Startup community, etc.. Lots of exposure for everyone involved, except of course, LES.NET

It’s interesting what the oligopoly can do when they throw $50k? $75k? towards a publicity stunt in the name of self interest while riding on the coat tails of the people who are actually trying to make a difference, ie: North Forge and Innovation Alley.

But then again, this news/blog post is in for my own best interest.. O_o But I digress.

At the end of all the speeches all I could think about was my total failure towards the marketing for LES.NET. I couldn’t bring myself to stick around after everyone was off the stage. I wanted to approach these guys and confront them with the fact that LES.NET is doing what they promise to do.

Here we have two giant telecom companies who are trying to merge (which I’m still trying to figure out is a good or bad thing) promising to bring GIGABIT INTERNET to Winnipeg and Innovation Alley if the merger is approved.

WOW!

So gigabit internet isn’t available right now? Funny, LES.NET has had 10 Gigabit Internet for years now, and has customers on our network are totally digging the 100 Megabit and 1 Gigabit connections we provide them at 1/10th the cost of the competition.

What’s even funnier, is that LES.NET has been providing 100+ megabit to the startups in Innovation Alley for years, and recently replaced “you know who” as the Internet Service Provider … providing guess what??? Gigabit Internet..

So MTS & Bell are promising to deliver Gigabit Internet to Innovation Alley if the merger is approved, when LES.NET *IS* already doing it? WTF.
